CAAC (Alberto Carneiro Art Center) is a municipal initiative project, aimed at safeguarding, preserving, researching and promoting contemporary art, framed within a strategy whose fundamental principles are sustainable development, creativity and the production of knowledge, whose mission is to raise public awareness of artistic expression. The sculptor Alberto Carneiro is intrinsically linked to the municipality of Santo Tirso, not only because his works are exhibited in the city, but, fundamentally, because he was the driving force behind a grand public art project, structured around the holding of ten symposiums, which were based on themes linked to contemporary art and, specifically, public sculpture, which constituted the core collection and the foundation for the creation of the International Museum of Contemporary Sculpture of Santo Tirso (MIEC). One of the main objectives of the CAAC is to manage the collection of the sculptor Alberto Carneiro, as well as to expand the art collection of the Santo Tirso City Council, through donations and direct acquisitions.
