MOVIE SESSION “OUTER SPACE” AND “LIGHT IS CALLING”

extra-curricular activity with VITOR ALMEIDA

PROGRAM

The session showed two films, “Outer Space” by Peter Tscherkassky and “Light is Calling” by Bill Morrison. The two artists produce experimental cinema as part of a movement called found-footage film. Generally speaking, both start from “found” films, appropriating them as artistic raw material and then, essentially through manipulation, exploring other cinematic, conceptual and expressive dimensions. In Tscherkassky’s film, he seems interested in shattering the original film and then reassembling the fragments, showing traces such as apparitions destroying original narrative norms; Morrison seems to rescue films from ruin, using film remains in advanced decomposition, which are later treated as relics of the origins of cinema, deliberately exposing their decadence and above all, exploring the primitive filmic potential between the spectrum and the narrative.
