ACCADEMIA DI BELLE ARTI DI CARRARA (ABAC)


The Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara was founded in 1769 and is one of the most ancient academies in Europe. It was created to promote the development of arts, while supporting the marble industry and trade. Nowadays, the Academy is a public institution which purpose is the elaboration, transmission, and development of artistic knowledge. Traditional and contemporary sculpture coexist thanks to modern technologies and to the dialogue with artists coming from all over the world to visit marble quarries and local art workshops. The Academy provides bachelor (triennio) and master (biennio) degrees divided in six different schools: Sculpture, Decoration, Painting, Graphics, Scenography, NTA, New Art Technologies. During 2022, new cycles of studies were initiated: Design, Illustration and Comics, Cinema and Photography, Art Didactics. The Academy has 850 students, 80 professors and 20 staff employees.
