Rui Ferro

YES Profile

M#2 Workshop Guest Coordinator

Rui Ferro identifies himself as a visual artist-sculptor, embracing the specific training of the 1990s at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Porto. He aligns with Thomas Schütte’s statement: “Even today, I believe that artists should have dirty fingers.” In his academic career, he has conducted research in the field of molding and casting, presenting in 2015 his doctoral dissertation, based on an authorial project in artistic creation, titled Molds of an Identity: Practical and Conceptual Analysis of a Creative Process. This work concludes a research cycle that began with the survey, documentation, and analysis of molding processes at FBA.UP, developed as part of his Teaching Aptitude and Scientific Capability Examination, followed by the reflection Molding Processes, Teaching, and Artistic Production, presented as a master’s thesis. He also continues his artistic practice, carving out both physical and mental time that expands beyond his teaching activities.
